Herbruck, Alder & Co. of Cleveland sold to publicly traded Arthur J. Gallagher & Co.

Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. (NYSE: AJG), a publicly traded insurance brokerage and risk management services firm headquartered in Itasca, Ill., said it has bought employee benefits consultant Herbruck, Alder & Co. of Cleveland in a deal that will enable the local firm to grow its work force and services.

Mark Alder, president of Herbruck Alder, said his firm at present serves clients in Northeast Ohio but now “will be able to get after business outside” the region as part of a company with a market capitalization of more than $4 billion.

Fitness Plan Pays for Slimming Down

01/20/2010 - The contest is indicative of a growing trend among Northeast Ohio employers as they search for ways to help their work force get healthier and, in the end, reduce their own cost of providing medical coverage, said Mark Alder, president of benefits consulting firm Herbruck Alder.

"If people could enjoy better health, that would result in better claims," Alder said.  "Wellness is kind of that last area where personal responsibility needs to come in, and employers are crazy if they don't try to encourage employees to take better care of themselves."
